The mask creates a necessary and revealing distance, it is a bridge more than a border to be crossed, which establishes a new relationship to the world for those who wear it and those who look at it. An object of fear and desire that hides as much as it reveals, it is a totem with magical powers. The mask is an object that speaks to everyone. Many cultures have masks for ritual, liturgical, festive or commemorative purposes. The art of the mask imbued in history and contains all the stories of humanity.
The ambition of Vois Moi! (translated meaning: “See Me”), is to borrow from several design and art methodologies to explore and enrich the subject and to
achieve a production in the field of event design and scenography. The self-contained traveling exhibition from École Boulle, in Paris was sent in four fly cases to the partner institution, University of Johannesburg’s Architecture and Interior Design departments to exhibit collectively with local mask projects for a joint celebration in culture through mediation.
The event is sponsored by the Alliance Française de Johannesburg and the Institut Français Afrique du Sud (IFAS).
